Ingredients

  • 450g wholemeal flour
  • 1 tsp honey or sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp bread soda
  • 400ml milk mixed with 2 tbsp natural Irish yogurt
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • Sprinkle of oats, to decorate

Method

1

Weigh the ingredients and gather your equipment.

2

Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease and line a 2lb loaf tin.

3

Place the wholemeal flour, honey or sugar and salt in a large mixing bowl.

4

Sieve the bread soda into the mixing bowl.

5

Use a wooden spoon or spatula to stir in the milk and oil until well blended. The mixture will be quite wet. Use a spatula to scrape down the bowl and spoon.

6

Add the mixture to the loaf tin and sprinkle some oats on top.

7

Bake for 1 hour. The bread is baked when it makes a hollow sound if you tap the bottom of the loaf.

Safety Reminder

Don’t forget to ask an adult to help you with cutting, the oven and of course, cleaning up!
