Avonmore is switching to paper straws on its milk supplies for over 240 schools nation-wide from this September, saving 2.7 tonnes of plastic per annum or the equivalent weight of two average-sized cars.
From the start of the new school year this year, Avonmore School Milk, which comes in recyclable Tetra Pack cartons, will be served with paper instead of plastic straws. The new paper straws are certified fully recyclable and made with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) material.
Avonmore have pledged that 100% of their packaging will be compatible with the circular economy by 2025. It is one of over a dozen science-based targets set out in their recently-launched ‘Living Proof’ sustainability strategy. Their aim is to leave our planet in a better place for future generations such as the primary school students drinking fresh milk each day.
